I am very pleased with this great result.  Excellent aesthetics and contact with the adjacent tooth, achieved in one visit using composite.

Modern composites are far more durable than earlier products.  I use Venus Pearl because it looks great and does not contain any Bisphenol compounds.

These teeth are far more solid now the cracks associated with the mercury amalgams have been repaired.  The patient is now mercury-free.

Even I have difficulty spotting the outline of this composite filling.  Such a contrast to the old mercury amalgam – the whole tooth has lightened up.

Leaking restoration margins can lead to decay, as seen here.  After detection using a disclosing dye, these old composites were replaced with perfectly sealed Venus Pearl fillings.

I think even another dentist would struggle to identify the filling in this premolar.

Years of driving this mercury amalgam into the tooth through chewing had resulted in typical stress-cracks.  These were repaired with non-toxic composite when the filling was replaced, creating a much stronger unit.

Though I say it myself, this tooth is beautifully restored after replacement of the large, cracked mercury amalgam with a Venus Pearl composite filling.

It is not essential to run out every stained fissure in a tooth – doing so might weaken it unnecessarily.  Irrespective, it was good to see these teeth brighten up considerably after their mercury amalgams had been removed safely.

It took less than an hour to replace these mercury amalgams – even using the SMART technique. The Venus Pearl fillings are not only non-toxic and great looking, but they will also prevent further cracking.

Two compromised teeth, one with a large mercury amalgam that was removed using the SMART protocol, beautifully restored. Both the patient and I were delighted with the result.

This porcelain inlay was leaking at the margins.  The replacement restoration is not a new inlay but a Venus Pearl filling – a cheaper and more secure alternative.

There is something very satisfying about replacing two mercury amalgams in a row.

Another mercury amalgam replacement using the SMART technique.  As well as emitting mercury vapour, this old filling is leaking at the margins, thereby creating an uncleanable ditch around it.  The replacement Venus Pearl composite is not only non-toxic and sealed to the tooth, it looks infinitely better.

This tooth shows the multiple cracks that invariably appear when mercury amalgam is used as a restorative material.  As you might imagine, it does not bond to the tooth in any way and therefore acts as a stress-wedge.  Contrast with our replacement composite filling , which combines beautifully with the remaining tooth structure and is non-toxic, supportive and aesthetic.

Not so long ago, I would have used porcelain to restore this fractured premolar containing a mercury amalgam.  Thanks to recent technical advances, however, I was able to restore the tooth using a simple, less expensive, composite filling shaped by hand.
